New Bitmap-Based Particle Engine

I played around more with the particle system, and I made a new and improved particle explosion effect.

This one runs faster and more fluidly. It looks more like a real particle engine.

Bitmap-Based Particle Engine

I was playing around with AS3's BitmapData class, and I came up with a little Particle engine that is surprisingly quick. It is just a class that draws a bunch of particle bitmaps to a larger bitmap, and then the larger bitmap is the only thing that is seen.

All it does right now is it gives the mouse a cool trail of blurred particles. This can run at a mindbogglingly quick 100fps.

New Site Layout

As you might have noticed, Prograhamming.com has undergone some major graphics updates. Nothing is completed; this is just a taste of the NEW Prograhamming Productions website.

You may notice the top bar with the tabs does not work (apart from being infinitely entertaining to switch tabs :P), and there is no side bar like there was before. This will all come in time. This is mainly meant as a preview of the new site look.

So please enjoy and tell me how you like it.

Replacing text with a background image in CSS

Say you want to have a bunch of little blurbs of text that Google and other search engines can read, but you want to use an image to display the text. Use my menu headers as an example: there's no text, but Google can still read "Search Prograhamming", etc. It can be pretty simply done with CSS.

Completing a Flash Game: The Worst Part

I basically finished my newest game (which I cannot share with you for the sake of keeping it exclusive) a month ago. After that, I kept thinking, oh, I'll make the final adjustments and complete my game tomorrow. The only problem was, I never really got around to doing it. I would work on it a little here and there, but I never really made myself finish the game. There was always one more little thing I could do to make it a bit better, and each time I sat down and worked with flash, I would get a fraction closer to finishing.

But it was only when I realized that the summer days were running out when I knew I had to finish the game fast. The thing was, it took me much longer than I had expected. Just to make the final touches on my game took two days alone. It was torture. With every passing moment, I wanted more and more to finish it and get it sponsored (hopefully). What I'm trying to say is, never think that your game is done until it is. I could have finished my game almost a month ago, and already be well into another.

Well, next time.
